Endowed Funds

Our namesake, George Washington gave the university its first gift in 1796, saving Liberty Hall Academy so that it could go on to become one of the nation's finest liberal arts universities. His gift, which still contributes to Washington and Lee University's operations today, set a philanthropic precedent that has inspired the generosity of thousands of donors through the generations. Washington and Lee's endowed funds ensure talented students have access to a W&L education, provide faculty with opportunities for research and academic enrichment, support university programs so that they thrive, and sustain the beauty of the historic campus. W&L is deeply grateful to the individuals who have made these funds possible.
